Window Systems

Ideas to help drivers. And an industry.

For decades, Magna Donnelly has been a leader and innovator in automotive windows.

In 1974, for instance, our invention of the encapsulated modular window revolutionized the industry. It allowed automakers to reduce wind noise and create a smoother, flush design. Plus, it reduced production time and costs.

Today, you’ll find Magna Donnelly encapsulated windows in millions of cars and trucks around the world. Yet we continue to seek new ways to make windows better.

More award-winning innovations.

Magna Donnelly developed the first single-sided encapsulation, a patented process in which all of the mounting hardware and weather-sealing material is bonded to one side of the window glass. This breakthrough, DirectBond™ single-sided encapsulation, allowed manufacturers to create a smooth, aerodynamic look in which all weather stripping or mounting hardware is invisible outside the vehicle.

Auto designers embraced the DirectBond™ single-sided encapsulated window. And when it was introduced on the 1995 Chrysler minivan, it won a prestigious engineering award from the Society of Plastics Engineers.

The car of the future.

Magna Donnelly is looking ahead. To a day when cars:

  • Contain windows that sense solar radiation and adjust tint automatically to maximize occupant comfort
  • Offer increased fuel economy because of the reduced load on the air conditioner
  • Give added protection from the sun for a child sitting in the back seat
  • Deter smash-and-grab theft by having the windows automatically turn opaque when the driver exits the vehicle
