Magna Mirrors Selected as PACE Award Finalist for BlindZoneMirror™

AURORA, Ontario, Canada, October 22, 2008 — Magna Mirrors, an operating unit of Magna International, announced today it has been selected as a finalist for the 2009 Automotive News PACE Awards. The selection in the product category is for Magna Mirrors’ BlindZoneMirror™.

BlindZoneMirror is an innovative sideview mirror that integrates a wide-angle auxiliary mirror into the main mirror. The auxiliary mirror reduces the side blind zone where passing vehicles are typically outside the driver’s field of view. The transition from the main mirror to the wide-angle auxiliary mirror is seamless and the driver can readily discern the presence of the passing vehicle.

This industry-first innovation addresses a prime concern of drivers: improved visibility around the vehicle. Compared to radar-based blind spot monitoring systems, BlindZoneMirror is available at a fraction of the price. This affordable technology is currently available on the 2009 Ford Edge and Chevrolet Traverse, and will eventually be offered on several future Ford, Lincoln and Mercury vehicles.

“I want to thank Automotive News for this recognition, it is an outstanding accomplishment and a testament to teamwork and product execution,” said Jim Brodie, Vice President & General Manager, Magna Mirrors. “Additionally, it is an honor for us to have brought to market this technology that was originally patented by George Platzer, a widely recognized automotive innovator.”

The Automotive News PACE Awards honor superior innovation, technological advancement and business performance among automotive suppliers. PACE Award winners will be announced at the 15th annual Automotive News PACE Awards ceremony on April 20, 2009, in Detroit, Mich.
