Magna Mirrors Wins PACE Award with BlindZoneMirror
AURORA, Ontario, Canada, April 21, 2009 — Magna Mirrors, an operating unit of Magna International, announced today it has won a 2009 Automotive News PACE Award with its BlindZoneMirror™ product. The PACE Awards, conferred April 20, 2009, in Detroit, Mich., honor superior innovation, technological advancement and business performance among automotive suppliers.

BlindZoneMirror is an innovative sideview mirror that integrates a wide-angle auxiliary mirror into the main mirror. The auxiliary mirror reduces the side blind zone, where passing vehicles are typically outside the driver’s field of view. The transition from the main mirror to the wide-angle auxiliary mirror is seamless, and the driver can readily discern the presence of the passing vehicle.

This industry-first innovation addresses a prime concern of drivers: improved visibility around the vehicle. Compared to radar-based blind spot monitoring systems, BlindZoneMirror is available at a fraction of the price. The technology is currently available on the 2009 Ford Edge and Chevrolet Traverse and could eventually become standard equipment in any vehicle due to its affordability.

“Thank you to Automotive News, the judges, our customers, and the entire team within Magna Mirrors who made the vision a reality,” said Jim Brodie, Vice President & General Manager, Magna Mirrors. “For Magna Mirrors, the BlindZoneMirror has been a textbook example of how leadership and product differentiation leads to market innovation and consumer value.”
